Everyone in the CPA community can be a part of FISH by participating in our monthly Darebee Challenge. It’s easy to get started! Kindness Club Keep the Cold Out This fall, the Kindness Club is on a mission to raise $2000 to help provide shelter that could literally save a life on a below freezing night here in Colorado! We are asking you to join Kindness Club’s Keep the Cold Out by collecting monetary donations of any size from every grade so that we can provide vouchers for people who need shelter this winter. The organization One by One Helping Arvada Homeless and Grace Church of Arvada have partnered with the Severe Weather Shelter Network (SWSN) to provide shelter on severe weather nights to people experiencing homelessness. SWSN has made arrangements with several area hotels to accept vouchers from pre-screened individuals through participating homeless outreach organizations like One By One and others. The County allocated funds to pay for these vouchers but the need from the ever-growing homeless population in the area has depleted the funds before the 2019 season was even over.  One by One and Grace agreed to help meet the need that rose above the county budget and Kindness Club...

Welcome to SEW Saturday! Every Saturday, the social emotional wellness (SEW) committee sends out ideas that we feel can help our community build resilience and stay connected to one another. This week we are highlighting the I in our NOURISH program.   I stands for: Initiate Movement and Exercise. Our bodies need to move! Study after study shows the benefit of movement on our physical and mental health.  In a normal year we see kids moving all the time – when they play and when they run, hop, skip, and jump their way through the day.  Since many kids and adults are spending more time in front of screens because of COVID, it is now more important than ever to find ways to move. Our amazing middle school social studies teacher, Mrs. Bonnie Hughes has some great ideas on how we can initiate movement and exercise.  She shared her ideas in a video that you can watch here: https://youtu.be/LSyu-d56EoU We’ve also compiled some wonderful resources for activities that encourage kids to move at home. Check out these ideas for movement breaks and exercise. One of the most popular sites used in education is GoNoodle.  If you’ve heard about it but never checked it out, it is worth your time! Students really enjoy the activities on Go Noodle. https://www.gonoodle.com/ Some other sites with links to resources and activities to help you get moving at home: Active Schools https://www.activeschoolsus.org/news-and-resources/2019-11-22-resources-for-home/ Child Mind Institute https://childmind.org/guide/family-resources-for-remote-learning/at-home-activities/ Move More https://www.move-more.org/at-home-resources/ We hope that some of the ideas that we shared in this post will be helpful to get you and your family moving more this fall. We would love to hear from you about ways that you are initiating movement and exercise. You can email us at SEW@crownpointeacademy.org To your well-being! – The SEW...

Welcome to SEW Saturday! Every Saturday, the social emotional wellness (SEW) committee sends out ideas that we feel can help our community build resilience and stay connected. This week we are highlighting the R in our NOURISH program.  The R stands for replenish and restore ourselves physically and emotionally. Our wonderful staff member, Mrs. Julie Southern created a video about this topic. We hope you enjoy it! You can watch the video here: https://youtu.be/fWvQ5qWW8vM When we think about things that restore us both physically and emotionally there are a variety of answers.  This is because different people need different things. Some people get energized by going to the mountains, others gravitate to the water.  Some people love to challenge themselves physically and others intellectually.  Some people need time with others to feel energized, other people need time alone in order to reset.  People gravitate to different kinds of music, food, activities, hobbies, and places to restore themselves. While we all have different things that help us to feel replenished or restored, we all need something that helps us do this.  We are very human in that way. There is a saying that goes, ‘you can’t fill from an empty cup’ and it simply means that it is hard to keep giving to others when you don’t take time to think about the things you need to fill yourself up. We hope you are able to think about and then act on the things that help to replenish and restore you this week!  Talk about what kinds of things you like to do and then ask your family members what they like to do.  You might be surprised about what you learn. We would love to hear from you about ways that you replenishing and restoring yourself. You can email us at SEW@crownpointeacademy.org To your well-being! – The SEW...

Hello Crown Pointe Community, Welcome to SEW Saturday! Every Saturday, the social emotional wellness (SEW) committee is sending out ideas we feel can help our community build resilience and stay connected. This week we are highlighting the U in our NOURISH program.  The U stands for: unite with others and create community. So far we’ve had Mrs. Worley talk about N for nature and getting outside and last week Mr. Varner talked about O for observe breath and the power of stillness.  This week we’ve got a special guest, none other than Mr. Ouweneel, who made a video about how we can unite with others and create community. Finding ways to unite with others can be difficult in a virtual space.  We can see that it takes a lot more effort to feel that human connection in an online world. And at the same time finding ways to stay connected with our friends, family, teachers, and the school is more important now than ever. Creating community means intentionally creating a space where people feel like they belong and that they are connected to something bigger than themselves.  We can still do this in an online world where we remember to ask people about themselves, where we contribute to class discussions, where we can show our attention by focusing on the person talking and not multitasking. We can also connect with communities outside of school.  These communities have meaning for us,  help us feel connected, and help us to enjoy life. For some of us it is our religious or spiritual community, for others it’s our sports community where we are part of a team, and some of us belong to communities that create things together like music or art. We would love to hear from you about ways that you are uniting with others and building community. You can email us at SEW@crownpointeacademy.org We hope you find ways to NOURISH yourself this week! -The SEW team  ...
